Stepping through the portal

Jakarta moves fast. But on Level 23 at Park Hyatt Jakarta, the pace slows just enough for you to notice the details from the way sunlight filters into the Conservatory, the quiet hum of conversation, the soft sound of a bamboo whisk meeting ceramic.
From 15 January to 31 March 2026, the hotel presents Matcha Afternoon Tea Season 2 at the Conservatory, priced at IDR 350,000++ per person. We visited to experience it firsthand, and what we found wasn’t just another pretty tea set — it was thoughtful, interactive, and surprisingly fun. It's definitely a modern ritual designed for today’s Jakarta.
Who would have thought that the classic high-end hotel afternoon tea would evolve into a full-on matcha ritual? Move over earl grey and scones! Now here we are in Jakarta, whisking bright green Japanese tea ourselves inside a five-star hotel. It’s unexpected, but it also makes sense cause since last year matcha has become the star of a modern luxury afternoon for all. It’s a shift that feels both surprising and perfectly timed.

Unlike traditional tiered tea sets that lead with sweets, this matcha-forward journey opens with a refined savory course — immediately signaling that this is not your typical hotel afternoon tea. Created by Pastry Chef Ali Saleh in collaboration with Uji Matcha Indonesia, the menu explores matcha beyond the obvious.
The experience begins savory. The tuna inari arrives first — delicate, clean, topped with avruga caviar. Then scallop with hijiki and wasabi yuzu mayo, bright and balanced. A Japanese curry crab tart with matcha follows, warm and slightly earthy. None of it feels heavy. Each bite feels so well thoughts for customers.

The Middle Course: Where Ritual Becomes Personal
Midway through, the wagyu beef sando appears. Soft bread, tender beef, a gentle kick of spicy aioli. It anchors the menu and makes the experience feel substantial rather than snack-like.
Then comes the part that changes the mood of the table: the DIY usucha.
We whisked our own matcha. Not perfectly. Not ceremonially strict. Just honestly. The staff explains the technique, but it doesn’t feel like a lesson. It feels like participation. There’s something grounding about watching the powder dissolve, about trying to create that soft foam on top.
Some guests opted for the Crystal Cube add-on (IDR 50,000++, subject to availability), which chills the matcha latte without dilution. It’s visually striking — and practical. A small luxury detail that people here in Jakarta loves.
The apple and kiwi matcha palate cleanser resets everything before sweets begin.
